Get Vaccinated
Ayasha Thomason
Hi, I’m Ayasha Thomason.
Heather Stalling
And I’m Heather Stalling.
Ayasha Thomason
And today we’re going to talk about COVID and get your vaccine!
Heather Stalling
Yes, please. So, Ayasha, can you tell us about your experience since you just got over COVID yourself?
Ayasha Thomason
I can. I am I’ll start by saying fully vaccinated, and have been since January. And my family is also fully vaccinated. I am one of those people who is extra cautious everywhere I go. In the past several weeks, I’ve started wearing my mask everywhere I went. Again, the only place I ever let my guard down is at home. And that’s where I got it from my vaccinated husband. So all that to say that I am now on day 14 of my COVID course, and I am still not 100%. I have brain fog. I have severe fatigue. In fact, after I do this video, I might have to take a nap. I am so thankful that I had my vaccine, because I feel like instead of being in the hospital on a ventilator, I’m here talking to you.
Heather Stalling
So what would you say about this whole vaccinated unvaccinated and the fact that you did get it?
Ayasha Thomason
I think that I got it because there were so many people, especially in Arkansas, in the surrounding states, that have low vaccination rates, have let the virus linger. And now we have the Delta variant and we have other variants that are more virulent. Our vaccine was only designed to protect us from certain other variants completely. So while I have some protection and I had some protection, I still got sick. So many other people are getting sick that are fully vaccinated.
Heather Stalling
All because. There’s so many hosts that this virus can go into and mutate and grow stronger. And then we’re left just having to keep figuring out the science, right? I mean, the vaccine is kind of like the flu. There’s so many variants that there’s only one that it can work on. You’ve got to keep so unvaccinated people.
Ayasha Thomason
Some of the reasonings for not getting the vaccine is that there’s not enough science and that it’s not fully FDA approved. And I understand that. However, there is a lot of science behind this vaccine and a lot of science previously done before years and years ago, before they ever even started doing this for COVID. So the science has been there for a long time. Now, their reasoning I can’t understand because there are several different reasons, and some people that I know don’t even have a reason. But I think reason enough would be that about 99% of the people who are in the hospitals in Arkansas right now in the ICU for COVID are all unvaccinated. That should be reason enough.
Heather Stalling
And so is there an age difference that we’re seeing that are hitting more often with this delta variant?
Ayasha Thomason
Younger people. Definitely younger people. I talked to a nurse the other day who lost a 20 year old patient. Completely healthy 20 year old. And he was unvaccinated. So yes. And for the people who would say, well, your vaccine didn’t work. You still got sick. That’s not true. My vaccine did absolutely work. It kicked my immune system into gear enough to fight something that it partially recognized. So, yes, I got sick. And lots of people will get sick, but you’re probably not going to be hospitalized or die because of it.
Heather Stalling
My 13 year old got his vaccine.
Ayasha Thomason
Yay! So please, please, please go get vaccinated.
Heather Stalling
Yes, do us all a favor, including yourself.
