Ayasha Thomason
Hi, my name is Ayasha Thomason.
Ashley Kirk
Hey, I’m Ashley Kirk.
Ayasha Thomason
Today we’re going to talk about how to choose the right nursing home for your loved one.
Ashley Kirk
So when you think about looking for a place for your loved one, it’s not always about the bells and whistles and about the aesthetics and about all the pretty, because a lot of times. When they spend a lot of money on that, then maybe you don’t have money for snapping. Right. Sometimes the care isn’t there, and so it’s definitely about the people that are. Going to take care of your loved ones.

As far as staffing goes, you want to look for a facility that’s had a consistent staff for a long period of time. So if you’ve got an administrator and a DON that’s been there for what, four years or more and together they probably got a pretty good team.
Ashley Kirk
That’s right.
Ayasha Thomason
A CNA that’s been there for five or ten years, we’ve been in facilities where there’s a CNA. I’ve been here for 25 years. That’s the facility you want to put your parents in?
Ashley Kirk
Yeah, absolutely. Because that means the owners are taking care of their employees and investing in them to be able to take care of your residents and your family members.

The other thing is, my friends will often contact me and say, I’m looking for a nursing home or rehab facility for my family member. And I’ll say we need to put them meant such and such. And I say that because I know I’ve got a nurse practitioner there. If it’s in that same community that they live in, I’m going to pick a nursing home where my nurse practitioner is in there. And I’m not saying that just because I have ICP. I’m saying that because if I had to put my mother in a nursing home. I wanna have access to a healthcare provider every day
Ashley Kirk
On demand access. That’s correct. That’s correct. That’s a huge benefit for the residents to have someone monitoring them and someone at their fingertips every day when things are going on.
